Thank You to the COVID-19 Front Liners

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” This 80s mantra has never been truer than it is now as the world struggles to find its economic feet and simultaneously battle an almost invisible enemy.

COVID-19 has undoubtedly had a massive impact on all of us. From small businesses to the corporate giants, across all borders and languages, rich and poor alike – nobody has been spared.

Despite these bleak times, there have been some wonderfully positive outcomes which we’d like to highlight, proving once again that there is nothing stronger than the human spirit.

Society Reinvented

When the world shut its doors most of us bemoaned the things we missed, eating out, visiting family and friends, a round of golf, the gym…

What many of us discovered, though, was the genuine pleasure of home-cooked meals, time spent with growing children and the emotional fulfilment to be found in spring cleaning. We discovered that the neighbour to our right grew spinach and micro herbs, while it turns out that the neighbour on the left had laying hens that we never knew about.

We learned that Grade 6 maths is far trickier than we remember and that teaching a little person to haltingly read her first words is deeply satisfying.

Those of us who have elderly parents or fragile family members learned how to disinfect and sanitise efficiently, to shop frugally for healthy meals, and suddenly we understood the value of a quick morning phone call to check in on our loved ones.

Yes, as a species we rediscovered what matters most as communities rallied together to collect food and clothing for those without and to keep ourselves and our families safe.

The Front liners

Amid the chaos we uncovered a group of people – many of which were all but invisible to us – who are proving their worth in no small way.

Thank you to the medical staff

The tireless effort of our medical teams has not gone unnoticed. Despite the difficult circumstances, the long hours, the tragedy and confusion, they have continued to care for us. In some cases, at the expense of their own safety, they still do all they can.

Thank you to the police

With countrywide uncertainty and constantly shifting rules, our police and other law enforcement teams have still managed to maintain a level of civility. We also understand how hard it must be for the honest, hardworking officers to face criticism for rules that they have not implemented and may not fully understand in some cases.

Thank you to the cashiers and store workers

For those who have had to deal with a frightened population and who may have endured their fair share of harsh words from a confused and angry customer, for dealing with busy environments and inexplicably long queues, wearing uncomfortable protective clothing for hours at a time – thank you.

Thank you to the petrol attendants

Despite the wintry weather and uncertain times, the cheery service from a chilly petrol attendant has been very welcome. Trying their best to sanitise themselves, your credit card and your keys while smiling behind their face mask – we say thank you.

Thank you to all in the food processing industry

To the farmworkers and all those involved in getting food to our stores, we say thank you. You may have had to work longer hours and make sacrifices to feed the nation, but we know that without the dedication of the pickers, packers, processors, drivers and delivery staff, we may be in a very different situation.

Let’s Stay Connected

COVID-19 has taught us many lessons, but one of the key things that we will take away from this situation is that we need to stay connected

How so?

Let’s appreciate the need to be aware of the needs of our families and communities and remain connected to them to assist where we can. Let’s help small businesses by buying locally and connecting them with other potential customers. Let’s make sure that the faceless team of frontline helpers are supported in every way possible.

Let’s future-proof our own business by ensuring that we are wired into the best connectivity solution to stay afloat.

Let’s connect.
